Fishing
Fishing the rivers around Kirkcowan is a great opportunity
to catch salmon and trout. Both the river Tarff and the river Bladnoch border the village. In August every year we host the annual fishing competition sponsored by Belhaven Brewery, it is always a great
day enjoyed by the locals and visitors. Further away, just seven miles, the
river Cree flows through Newton Stewart.
There are also some great lochs all within easy reach and the price of a permit
varies.
Being close to many miles of coastline also means that sea fishing is also popular.
Cycling
The galloway forest is well known for its miles and
miles of great cycle tracks, some are easy and some very challenging. We are not far from Glentrool and Kirroughtree
both areas which are included in the 7Stanes route. There is probably no better way to see this stunning and
beautiful part of Scotland than by cycling whatever your standard of fitness and skill. Here at the Craighlaw Arms
we welcome cyclists, we have a wash down point and stable where bikes can be stored securely. Wet clothing can also be
dried.
Walking
There is an endless number of good walking routes
in the local area. Many suited to those just wanting to take a leisurely stroll and many which would appeal
to the more serious walker. The galloway forest provides the opportunity to explore miles of the most beautiful scenery. Whatever
your standard of fitness there will be a walk to suit you. Stunning scenery and abundant wildlife, a great
place for the outdoor pursuit.
If you plan to be out exploring all day we can even provide you with
a picnic lunch to take with you. On your return, tired but all the better for the days experience let us offer you a warm
welcome, a good meal and a comfortable bed. We can even take care of your wet clothes so that when you wake the next
day you will be ready to do it all over again!
